Advanced Wound Healing Material with Superior Clotting
Superfast Haemostat: Non-oxidised Cellulose Nanofiber based Topical Haemostatic Agent
Tags: Australian National University, Australia, Science & Exploration, Healthcare & Lifesciences
ANU has created a novel cellulose-based nanofiber (CNF) with superior haemostatic properties, outperforming current solutions like Surgicel® and Combat Gauze®. This environmentally friendly and cost-effective material can be used as both a gel and sponge, offering faster clotting, increased clot firmness, and significant reductions in blood loss. It's biocompatible, degrading slowly without scarring, and effective in special cases like heparinised and thrombocytopenia patient blood. Applications include surgeries, combat first-aid, and external wound healing, with ANU seeking partners for further development and licensing.
