Affordable, Robust CAR-T Cell Therapy for Cancer
CAR-T Cell Therapy (Gene Therapy) to Cure Cancer
Tags: IIT Bombay, India, Healthcare & Lifesciences
Researchers at IIT Bombay have developed an indigenous and affordable CAR-T cell therapy platform to treat blood cancers such as leukemia and lymphoma. This patented technology, the first of its kind in India, offers a GMP-compliant process to manufacture CAR-T cells at a fraction of the cost of international treatments. Applications include curing relapsed or refractory B cell malignancies, making it accessible to Indian patients. Currently under first-in-human clinical trials, the therapy has undergone extensive preclinical characterization and process scale-up. The innovation aims to drastically reduce treatment costs to approximately INR 30 lakhs, comparable to stem cell transplants, providing life-saving options to millions in India.
