Researchers have developed a surgical tool for aortic valve replacement surgeries tailored to the Indian population, addressing the inaccuracies and inefficiencies of current manual methods. The device uses the patient’s pericardium to create precise aortic valve leaflets, reducing surgery time, costs, and reliance on post-surgery medications. Preclinical tests confirm biocompatibility, and cardiac surgeons in Mumbai are validating the solution. Applications include improving outcomes for coronary and valvular heart disease surgeries. A patent has been filed for this innovation, making the process more accessible and reducing infection risks compared to artificial valves.
