HKMU research led by Dr. Emily Wong found that Danshen, a traditional Chinese medicine, reduces hypertension caused by the cancer drug Bevacizumab (Bev) without compromising its anti-cancer effects. Applications include combined Chinese and Western treatments for cancer patients, offering a safer alternative to manage Bev-induced side effects. This study explores different extraction methods of Danshen to optimize its therapeutic potential. Results show Danshen's unique compatibility with Bev, presenting a promising integrative approach for cancer care. The research is a milestone in bridging Chinese and Western medical practices for effective cancer treatment.
