Decolorise Recycled Plastic for Higher Market Value
Novel Processing Technology for Recycled PET Derived from Waste Colored PET Materials
Tags: National Taiwan University, Taiwan, Energy & Environment
This technology innovates in recycling colored PET materials by combining solvent-assisted disintegration, efficient solvent decolorization, and catalyzed glycolysis, turning waste into high-quality, decolorized PET. It addresses the shortage of colorless PET feedstock by valorizing colored PET, which traditionally has lower market value due to dyes. The process is eco-friendly, using non-VOC solvents and waste-derived catalysts, enhancing depolymerization and decolorization rates without damaging the PET. This advancement supports the PET circular economy by expanding the range of recyclable materials and improving the sustainability of PET recycling. The technology outperforms existing methods in efficiency and environmental impact, offering a valuable solution to meet growing recycled PET demands.
