Discovery of the Neural Basis of Fear Memory Formation
Hope for PTSD Treatment with Discovery of New Brain Mechanism in Mice
Tags: National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, Taiwan, Healthcare & Lifesciences
In a recent study, Professor Cheng-Chang Lien and international collaborators discovered a new brain mechanism in mice that modulates fear memory, providing insights into potential PTSD treatments. They found that inhibitory neurons in the amygdala prevent overreaction to fear memories, offering hope for controlling fear responses. This study highlights the importance of inhibitory neurons in fear memory formation. Applications could extend to treatments for PTSD and anxiety disorders. The research is ongoing and published in Cell Reports.
