Durable, Efficient Membranes for Water Treatment
High Flux Anti-fouling HFM for Water Treatment Application
Tags: IIT Bombay, India, Energy & Environment, Industrial Automation & Manufacturing
IIT Bombay researchers have developed a high-flux anti-fouling hollow fibre membrane (HFM) for water treatment, blending polyethersulfone with carboxylated multi-walled carbon nanotubes and a vitamin E derivative to enhance permeability and fouling resistance. This innovation addresses fouling issues in filtration processes, improving efficiency, durability, and reducing operational costs. Applications include wastewater treatment for non-drinking purposes, offering a low-cost solution for effluent management. The technology has been tested at a lab scale and is being prepared for scaling to a pilot plant. With excellent antifouling properties, the module can significantly benefit wastewater and effluent treatment industries.
