IIT Indore has developed Compressed Colored Bi-layered Bricks as a sustainable, low-cost alternative to conventional red and fly ash bricks. Made from colored dimensional stone waste and steel slag, they provide an aesthetically enhanced and eco-friendly option. The bricks require no additional plaster or paint, reducing costs. They can be used in brick manufacturing, paver blocks, and precast products. The technology enables large-scale production at less than five rupees per brick.
Price-performance metrics:
Cost Savings – 35% due to the elimination of plaster and paint.
Manufacturing Cost – Less than ₹5 per brick for low-cost infrastructure.
