This study explores how Thai front-desk staff in hospitality and tourism settings use explicit communication strategies when interacting with international guests using English as a lingua franca (ELF). It highlights techniques such as repetition, circumlocution, and self-reformulation to ensure clarity and avoid misunderstandings. The research analyzes 15 hours of authentic service interactions at tourist counters and hotel front desks. These communication methods help enhance service quality in multilingual environments. The findings suggest that incorporating explicitness strategies into English for Specific Purposes (ESP) courses in hospitality could improve staff performance.
