Efficient BLDC Motor System for Low-Power Fan Applications
A System for Modulating a Brushless DC Motor
Tags: IIT Delhi, India, Consumer Goods & Services, Energy & Environment
A system has been developed to modulate a brushless DC (BLDC) motor drive, optimizing power quality and efficiency for ceiling fans and other low-power applications. The drive controller estimates rotor position, while a PFC converter controller regulates speed, reducing power input by 3 to 4 W. The system eliminates the need for additional sensing arrangements and minimizes switching losses in the inverter. It enhances power quality with a total harmonic distortion (THD) of 2% and a power factor of 0.998. Applications include ceiling fans, table fans, and exhaust fans, making them more energy-efficient.
