NYCU researchers have developed a gene screening method to identify genes involved in brain development and disorders. This method has helped discover new genes related to epilepsy, focal cortical dysplasia, and medulloblastoma, a deadly childhood brain tumor. By studying neural stem cells, the team identified mutations like CEP85L, linked to lissencephaly, a rare brain disorder. Applications of this technology include future prenatal screenings for brain disorders and potential gene therapies. This work advances both the diagnosis and treatment of brain developmental diseases.
