Generate Energy Sustainably from Municipal Solid Waste
Rotary Kiln Incinerator for Generating Energy from Municipal Solid Waste
Tags: IIT Madras, India, Energy & Environment
IIT Madras has developed a rotary kiln incinerator that efficiently combusts municipal solid waste (MSW) while recovering heat energy. The system features a rotating sieve mesh to enhance combustion, an inclined kiln for automatic feeding, and a heat exchanger for energy recovery. It operates effectively with low-calorific-value waste, reducing reliance on external fuel sources. Applications include sustainable waste incineration and energy generation from MSW. The technology has been tested at IIT Madras and BHEL Trichy and has a granted patent (IN 517599).
