IIT Delhi has developed a retrofitting smart energy metering solution that converts conventional meters into IoT-enabled smart meters for real-time energy tracking. The system monitors and logs consumption data, controls appliances, and enables price-based load management while providing prepaid and post-paid billing options. It integrates with existing infrastructure and supports multiple communication modes, including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GSM, and LAN. Applications include power distribution and metering for residential and commercial buildings, improving energy efficiency. A functional prototype has been deployed at IIT Delhi, with an Indian patent application filed (202111037712).
