Multiband Metamaterial Absorber for EMI and Stealth Tech
Polarization Insensitive Metamaterial Enabled Multiband Absorber over a Wide Spectrum
Tags: IIT Delhi, India, Security & First Responders, Infrastructure, Utilities & Communications
IIT Delhi has developed a polarization-insensitive metamaterial absorber that provides high absorption across the X, Ku, and Ka microwave bands. The design consists of ten concentric circular rings and a slotted square patch on a dielectric substrate with a perfect electric conductor backing, optimizing frequency control and absorption response. It offers applications in radar cross-section (RCS) reduction for stealth technology, electromagnetic interference (EMI) suppression, and RF energy harvesting. The absorber demonstrates stable performance at oblique angles and achieves significant RCS reduction, making it suitable for both military and communication applications. A functional prototype has been fabricated and extensively tested in a laboratory setting, with an Indian patent application filed (202111019806).
