Researchers at IIT Hyderabad and IIT Jodhpur have developed an electrospun metal oxide nanofiber-based sensor for detecting hydrogen sulfide (H₂S), one of the most toxic industrial gases. Using SnO₂ nanofibers and functionalizing them with materials like CuO and noble metals, the sensor achieves high sensitivity, faster response, and stability at elevated temperatures. Applications include preventing gas leakage disasters by providing real-time, portable monitoring solutions for industrial and environmental safety. This innovation offers a low-cost, flexible alternative to traditional gas detection systems, ensuring rapid detection and portability. The project addresses the critical need for proactive gas leak monitoring to prevent tragedies like the Bhopal gas disaster.
