Precision-Controlled PolyHIPEs for Biotech & Filtration
Highly Ordered Poly-High Internal Phase Emulsions using Co-Flow Microfluidic Device
Tags: IIT Delhi, India, Healthcare & Lifesciences, Industrial Automation & Manufacturing
A novel co-flow microfluidic device has been developed to produce highly ordered poly-high internal phase emulsions (polyHIPEs) with precise control over pore size and porosity. Unlike conventional shear-based methods, this technique minimizes dispersity in polymer structures, leading to uniform and interconnected 3D porous constructs. The low-cost device enables scalable production of monodisperse HIPEs, making it an efficient alternative for creating macroporous polymers. The process is ideal for applications in tissue engineering, separation media, and catalyst support. A functional prototype has been developed and validated in a laboratory environment.
