The Multi Leaf Collimator (MLC) System enhances telecobalt units by allowing the generation of complex and irregular radiation fields, leading to improved conformity to tumor boundaries and better clinical outcomes in radiation therapy. The system consists of motorized tungsten alloy leaves that can be independently controlled to shape the radiation field, with features like collimator rotation and motorized wedge filters. It has been integrated with an indigenous telecobalt machine and approved by the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) for clinical use. The MLC system can be retrofitted to existing telecobalt units, offering a significant upgrade to radiation therapy capabilities.
