This technology leverages the probiotic Streptococcus thermophilus and its secreted molecules, such as beta-galactosidase, to inhibit colorectal cancer (CRC) tumor formation. Studies showed that patients with CRC had depleted levels of S. thermophilus, and replenishing it in mouse models reduced tumor development. The probiotic has potential applications for preventing colorectal cancer, aiming to translate this into clinical therapy to reduce the global burden of CRC. This probiotic approach could play a significant role in CRC prevention.
