The invention involves developing a polymeric micellar system for glutathione-mediated intracellular delivery of the photosensitizer chlorin e6 (Ce6) by synthesizing an amphiphilic polymer, methoxy-poly(ethylene glycol)-poly(D,L-lactide) disulfide-Ce6 (mPEG-PLA-S-S-Ce6), which self-assembles in an aqueous environment to form micelles. This nanocarrier system enhances drug release and therapeutic effects. The GSH-mediated intracellular drug delivery was tested against mouse mammary carcinoma and human alveolar adenocarcinoma cells. Micellar Ce6 improves solubility, stability, and cellular absorption, targeting tumors passively and reducing non-specific side effects. This system is applicable in pharmaceutical companies developing nanoformulations for cancer therapy.
