Regenerable Polymeric Gel for Heavy Metal Ion Removal
Materials for Removal of Heavy Metal Ions from Aqueous Waste
Tags: IIT Delhi, India, Industrial Automation & Manufacturing, Energy & Environment
A polymeric gel-based material has been developed to remove heavy metal ions from aqueous waste, addressing a major environmental concern. The polystyrene and acrylamide-based gels are water-swellable, reusable, and capable of removing ions such as Cu²⁺, Cd²⁺, Pb²⁺, and Fe³⁺. These materials can be packed into a column for continuous filtration or dispersed in water followed by centrifugation. The process is simple, highly effective, and suitable for chemical, manufacturing, and pharmaceutical industries. Applications include industrial wastewater treatment and drinking water purification.
