Synthetic Tanzanite Production: Low-Cost, High-Yield Method
Synthetic Tanzanite and its Fabricating Method
Tags: National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan, Science & Exploration, Consumer Goods & Services
This technology presents the first synthetic method for producing tanzanite, one of the rarest gemstones, using a solvothermal process. The method yields 5.56 grams of tanzanite crystals at a low cost of NT$113.56 per experiment, with a maximum particle size of 0.6 mm. The synthetic crystals can serve as seed crystals for future mass production, reducing dependency on natural tanzanite. Applications include gemstone production and optoelectronic fields. This technology addresses the supply-demand gap for tanzanite as natural resources deplete.
