Researchers from IIT Delhi, AIIMS Delhi, and Mahajan Imaging have conducted the first-ever fMRI study on Yoga Nidra, revealing significant changes in brain connectivity during practice. Yoga Nidra induces deep relaxation and increased awareness, affecting brain regions involved in emotion regulation, mind-wandering, and sleep. Experienced meditators show reduced Default Mode Network (DMN) connectivity compared to novices, correlating with their practice hours. Applications include improving mental health through reduced mind-wandering and enhanced emotional processing. The study highlights potential benefits for anxiety management and meditation practice tracking.
